Former Uzbekistan Olympians Shakhram Giyasov and Lazizbek Mullojonov have been scheduled to fight November 14 at Humo Arena in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, Lift Promotions announced on Saturday.
Giyasov, 17-0 (10 KOs), a 32-year-old from Bukhara, Uzbekistan, who now trains out of Brooklyn, New York, won silver at welterweight at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He turned pro in 2018 and most recently stopped Argentina’s Franco Ocampo in four rounds at Atlantic City, New Jersey’s Boardwalk Hall in April.
Mullojonov, 6-0 (6 KOs), a 26-year-old southpaw heavyweight from Fergana, Uzbekistan, won heavyweight gold at the 2024 Paris Games. He has impressed so far as a pro, including in a wide six-round unanimous decision win over Youness Baalla in the WBC Grand Prix semifinals in June.
But Mullojonov saw his win changed to a no-contest and drew a provisional suspension from the WBC after it was discovered after the fight that he had tested positive for a banned substance. No public update about Mullojonov’s status has come from the WBC, though Lift Promotions included a WBC belt in its promotional art for the card.
The full card and matchups have yet to be announced, but Jalol Akhmedov – an Uzbek who identifies as a former journalist – reported on his Twitter account that undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and undisputed super middleweight champ Terence Crawford are expected to be special guests at the show.
