Swedish 33-year old semi-retired lightweight Shadi Hamsho (10-0) is now based in Stavanger (Norway) where he is about to open a boxing club after working there for a few years as a personal trainer/coach. Hamsho, of Syrian descent, was a good amateur in Sweden but turned pro on the US West Coast in 2005 and went 6-0 in his first year as a pro but then the problems began with a change of management and trainer so in 2006 only two fights materialized.
More contractual problems followed and Hamsho had one fight in 2007, was inactive in 2008, and had his last fight 2009. He returned home to Malmoe where he tried his hand in promoting but eventually moved to Norway for a new start.
"I plan to stay here," says Shadi, Stavanger is the # 1 oil town in Norway and people are really into fitness and in my club we will work with fighters at all levels. I still want to fight myself and when (or if) professional boxing return to Norway I hope to be there as a coach or fighter or why not both or I might return to the US for a few fights more."
