The European junior-featherweight title fight between Britons Shabaz Masoud and Peter McGrail is to headline the Matchroom promotion at Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo on December 6.
Thirteen months will have passed since Masoud, 29, excelled throughout his victory over Liam Davies. The also-29-year-old McGrail has won four successive fights since losing for the first time in his career, to Ja’Rico O’Quinn in December 2023.
Brazil’s Beatriz Ferreira will defend her IBF lightweight title against Elif Nur Turhan of Turkey in the chief support.
“I was gutted when the fight got postponed the first time around,” said Masoud. “But for it to now be headlining in Monte Carlo, one of the most luxurious destinations in the world – I’m excited. I think it’s going to be a fan-friendly fight and one that will leave a mark on the fans who attend and those who tune in.”
“It’s time to shine baby,” said McGrail. “I have never been so excited for a fight since my debut. I’m number one.”
The British heavyweight Johnny Fisher will also fight for the first time since his first defeat, by David Allen in May, since when he has separated from his then-trainer Mark Tibbs to recruit Tony Sims. Fisher has been matched with Herbert Matovu of Uganda.
There will also be an all-British welterweight contest between Conah Walker and Pat McCormack, and the junior welterweight Hugo Micallef – of Monte Carlo – fights Ireland’s Sean McComb.
The Welsh lightweight Joe Cordina had previously been expected to feature on the same promotion, but he is instead on course to fight Gabriel Flores Jnr on the undercard of Diego Pacheco-Kevin Lele Sadjo in Stockton, California on December 13.
