Ian Lewison 10-2-1 (6 KOs) will face Gary Cornish 18-0 (10 KOs) in an eliminator for the vacant British heavyweight title on September 6 at the Lagoon Leisure Centre, Paisley.
Cornish had been due to face former Commonwealth champion Sam Sexton until a back injury forced him to withdraw from the contest.
Current Southern Area champion, Lewison has been in action twice in the past two months picking up a second round stoppage victory and a points decision over Kreso Bogdanovic and Hrvoje Kisicek, respectively. As a result, he believes that he is fit and ready to take the fight at less than a months notice.
Speaking to BoxingScene.com of how the fight came about, Lewison said: “He was supposed to fight Sexton and for whatever reason Sexton pulled out so they offered it to me and I said ‘Yeah’.”
“I’ve fought two times in the last few months so I’ve been in the gym so the momentum is there. I’ve been training so I feel I’m in a position to warrant me taking this.”
Home advantage will be with the 6ft 7in Scot yet Lewsion isn’t concerned and can only foresee one outcome.
“I’m confident because I think he’s useless. Straight up that’s all it is I think he’s pants. I’ve said it all along, the man is useless. The only thing he has going for him is that he’s fit.
“I could fight him in his front room in his house and it would make no difference the result is still going to be the same, he’s still going to get beaten. I’ll flatten the man anywhere.”
