Promising American heavyweight contender Seth Mitchell (25-0-1, 19 KO) is getting ready for his return to the ring which will take place on November 17th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 30-year old “Mayhem” will face the current trainer of Wladimir Klitschko, Johnathon Banks (28-1-1, 18 KO). The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds with the vacant WBC International heavyweight title at the stake. Mitchell is coming back to the ring after his 3rd round TKO victory over Chazz Witherspoon (30-3, 22 KO) in April.
Q: Hello, Seth. How are you doing? Tell us a bit about your training camp before the fight with Johnathon Banks. Is everything is going well? Don’t you have any injuries?
A: Yes, camp is going well, and I am injury free for the upcoming fight. My hand feels great and I have no pain in my previously injured hand.
Q: Don't you feel that you're a little bit rusty? You fought last time in April and your upcoming fight against Banks was postponed few times.
A: No, I won’t be rusty. I’ve been learning in the gym and that’s what I’ve done for the last few months. Hopefully, you will see that on November 17. I’ve been getting quality sparring and great workouts during this training camp.
Q: Your fight against Banks has a “WBC Semi-final eliminator" status on boxrec.com, but in fact the WBC has not confirmed that yet. Is there any truth to that?
A: I don’t get into all the politics of eliminator status. I leave that to my team to handle.
Q: Do you expect that Banks won't be in his best shape because he has been busy for working with Wladimir Klitschko for last weeks?
A: I’m expecting the best Johnathon Banks on November 17. I know he will be ready and I'll be ready also.
Q: Looking at the size of young rising heavyweight contenders, most of them (for example: Tyson Fury, David Price, Robert Helenius) are near to 6'7. Do you think that your height will put you at a disadvantage in fights with such big guys?
A: Not at all. When the time comes, I will prepared to fight my opponent, whether he is tall or not.
Q: What are your plans for 2013? Can you state that the next year will be yours?
A: I plan on fighting at least three times in 2013, hopefully with one of those fights being for a title in the later part of 2013.
Q: You are a calm and quiet man outside the ring. What makes that you become a beast when you're inside the ropes?
A: I’m a fierce competitor and I know when to turn it on and when to turn it off.
Q: Recently Tyson Fury said that he can beat "Adamek, Price or Mitchell". What do you think about a potential fight with Fury?
A: I’m thinking of Johnathon Banks right now, not him. All my focus right now is on this fight.
Q: What is your prediction for a fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Mariusz Wach?
A: I’ve never seen Wach fight, so I have to lean towards Wladimir in this fight. I'm looking for forward to the fight.
Q: Any closing thoughts?
A: Thank you to everyone who continues to follow me. Tune on Saturday night, November 17 on HBO. I've worked hard and hope to be victorious. I’m looking forward to putting on another exciting fight for the heavyweight division. You can find me on Twitter: @SethMayhem48
