BoxingScene.com has been advised by both sides that heavyweight Seth Mitchell (25-0, 19KOs) has sufferered a right hand injury in training and he will not be able to move forward with a scheduled fight against Johnathon Banks (28-1-1, 18 KOs) on July 14th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Mitchell-Banks was the HBO televised co-feature to the junior welterweight fight between Amir Khan and Danny Garcia. Mitchell's hand will take at least 6 to 8 weeks to heal.
Tom Loeffler, Managing Director of K2 Promotions, who handle Banks, was notified by Golden Boy Promotions Vice President Eric Gomez that Mitchell would not be able to move forward in July.
There is some discussion about possibly moving the fight to September. One possible date is the September 15th pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which is going to be a Golden Boy card with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez defending his WBC junior middleweight title against James Kirkland.
"[It may get postponed until September], nothing is confirmed. Banks wants the fight and Seth Mitchell wants the fight, and it's another good matchup between two solid heavyweights. That's another fight were the winner establishes himself with a lot more credibility. If Mitchell beats Banks, then it's a good win for him and if Banks beats Mitchell then it's a good win for him. It's one of those fights that just makes sense," Loeffler told BoxingScene.com.
