Serhii Bohachuk wants one more fight under his belt before 2019 comes to an end. He would also want to end the year with a bang.
The hard-hitting junior middleweight prospect could become a legit contender next year after a busy 2019 that saw him become more familiar with boxing fans.
Bohachuk will square off against Colombia’s Carlos Galvan tonight at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. The eight-round bout will take place after the main event between welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz and Brad Solomon.
The 24-year-old Bohachuk (16-0, 16 knockouts), who is originally from the Ukraine and now resides in Big Bear Lake, California, notched the biggest victory of his career thus far, knocking out hard-hitting Tyrone Brunson in the fourth round.
Aside from one fight in New York City and one fight in Moscow, Bohachuk has fought on fight cards throughout Southern California. He has headlined fight cards as of late at The Avalon in Hollywood.
Rather than wait to put Bohachuk on a card in February or March, promoter Tom Loeffler worked out a deal with Golden Boy Promotions to have Bohachuk fight on tonight’s card, allowing him to stay busy and expose more boxing fans to Bohachuk.
“Serhii is one of the most active and exciting, fastest rising stars in the sport,” said Loeffler. “We look forward to another spectacular performance tomorrow night and seeing if he can keep his perfect knockout streak alive.”
Since his pro debut in February of 2017, Bohachuk has been trained by Abel Sanchez.
“Coming off of the Oct. 27 win over Tyrone Brunson, training camp continued in preparation for this opportunity on this Golden Boy Promotions/ Fantasy Springs event,” said Sanchez. “Serhii has had very good sparring on and off the mountain, the weight has been easy to maintain because Serhii stayed in the gym training. Sparring and conditioning has been more intense. Having the stellar record means he has to work that much harder to stay unbeaten.”
Bohachuk has already earned a No. 14 ranking by the WBC.
Galvan (17-9-1, 16 KOs), who resides in Apartado, Colombia, defeated Jose Miguel Rodriguez by knockout in his last bout on Nov. 18. He has lost to the likes of IBF super middleweight titleholder Caleb Plant, fringe contender Willie Monroe, unbeaten Bakhram Murtazaliev, prospect Janibek Alimkhanuly, and unbeaten Carlos Monroe.
