The WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk is looking to stage a unification duel with WBC champion Sergio Martinez, also the current holder of the WBC championship at 160-pounds. Dzinziruk's mandatory challenger is Alfredo Angulo. They are under the same promoter Gary Shaw. He told Dzinziruk that a fight with Angulo will not take place until a later moment in time.
"A talked about fight with Alfredo Angulo will not happen, at least not in the near future. Myself and Angulo are under contract with Gary Shaw. And, according to our promoter, he does not intend to push us together at this time. My next fight is scheduled for the late summer. We have already made a proposal to Sergio Martinez, who has the WBC's version of the title," Dzinziruk told Tunir.
"I hope the Argentinian will accept so we can have a unification bout. If Martinez refuses to fight me, I will take a fight with someone in a high position in the WBO rankings."
