According to Mexican promoter Pepe Gomez, super featherweight Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (23-2, 21KOs) will make his United States debut on September 15th, as part of the undercard to the big show featuring WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the main event. Thompson will defend his WBC International silver title against an opponent to be announced.
If Thompson wins in Las Vegas, Gomez wants to secure him a title shot against the full WBC champion Takahiro Aoh of Japan. Thompson first made a name for himself earlier this year when shocked the boxing experts by dropping and stopping the heavily favored Jorge Linares in two rounds.
