World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez underwent successful surgery on his right knee on Monday in Madrid. The positive outcome was confirmed by Martinez's business partner Miguel De Pablos, who said "the operation was perfect." The injury was lingering for a while, but he injured it further during September's unanimous decision victory over Mexico's Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Martinez (50-2-2, 28KOs) will be ready to fight on April 27th in Argentina. The recovery time is expected to be a maximum of three weeks. When Martinez returns, his first defense [of his second reign] will be made at either Luna Park stadium or La Plata stadium, which has a capacity of about 55,000 people.
