Pablo Sarmiento, the trainer for middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, doesn't give WBA junior middleweight king Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30KOs) any possible chance to pull off an upset on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, when he defends his title against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs).
"There is only one guy who can beat Mayweather, and that's Sergio Martinez. There are three classes of boxers - A, B and C. Mayweather, Martinez and [Manny] Pacquiao are 'A" fighters and Cotto is a 'C' fighter. Cotto can't do anything to Mayweather. My prediction on the fight, Mayweather is going to give him a beating," Sarmiento told BoxingScene.com.
In the past two years, Martinez unsuccessfully pursued fights with both Mayweather and Cotto.
Cotto's adviser, Gaby Peñagarícano, had a good laugh when advised of Sarmiento's comments.
"We'll see on May 5th. I expect [Sarmiento's] call on May 6th. I expect his call on May 6th [requesting a fight with Cotto]," Peñagarícano told BoxingScene.
