American boxing agent Sampson Lewkowicz, spoke with BoxingScene.com/NotiFight.com about middleweight king Sergio Martinez. Lewkowicz confirms BoxingScene's report from last week, that Martinez is scheduled to return on October 1 - on HBO. Martinez will face one of two opponents. He will either take on WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik - if the German boxer defeats Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 4, or he will face the WBC' mandatory middleweight challenger - Marco Antonio Rubio - who recently knocked out the undefeated David Lemieux.
"Sergio Martinez will fight on October 1. The venue for the bout would is possibley going to be the Donald Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Peter Manfredo Jr. will appear on the undercard. Zbik took the fight. Chavez did not accept it. And I imagine that if Chavez wins, he will be running and I do not think that he will accept [a fight with Martinez]. Therefore, if Chavez does not fight with Sergio, we will definitely fight [for the vacant WBC title] against the No. 1 mandatory, which is Mexico's Marco Antonio "El Veneno" Rubio," Lewkowicz said.
