Former two division world champion Sergio Martinez is not planning to back away from his plan to stage a comeback fight.

The 45-year-old veteran has been inactive since 2014, when he suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Miguel Cotto.

He was scheduled to fight again on June 6th, but the contest was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Martinez is now looking to fight again on a date between December and February.

He's mentioned former EBU welterweight champion Kerman Lejarraga as a potential opponent.

"I am going to fight again, the date and the rival are not yet known but the fight will be in Madrid," said Martinez to Radio FM 94.7

"The best things you can find in boxing are the balance and security that it causes. It is a matter of mettle and strengthening, and in my case I could not find it in other sports and in other areas of life."

Martínez began looking for a return to boxing two years ago, and there were talks of a rematch with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., but nothing came about.

The veteran indicates that he recovered from the issues in his left knee, during the years he spent away from the ring. Martinez's knee problems were a major factor in his decision to walk away from boxing in 2014.

His record includes 51 wins - 28 by knockout - three losses - and two draws.

Regarding the situation that is experienced worldwide by the spread of the new coronavirus, the fighter is playing it safe by following all of the required measures to avoid infection.

"It is a pity that we now realize the importance of being united and finding something positive in this negative. In the quarantine I plan the days out well, I have many things to do and I am constantly busy, and that is very good. You cannot stand still, because the world keeps turning. This is going to be behind at some point and we will have to keep moving, there is progress," said Martinez.
