As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, middleweight champion Sergio Martinez is likely going to return on October 1. There is a slight chance, depending on the opponent and the availability of a venue, of having his return pushed back to October 8. One of the frontrunners to face Martinez - is WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik - who needs to seal the deal by beating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 4th. The other frontrunner is Marco Antonio Rubio, who recently knocked out undefeated David Lemieux in a WBC final eliminator. If the fight with Rubio is made, the bout has a good chance of taking place in Los Angeles, California. If Zbik defeats Chavez, a fight with Martinez could happen in Atlantic City. Rhode Island is also a consideration.
