Former two division world champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martínez has decided to postpone his return to the ring, scheduled for June 6, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The return to the ring of Martínez was scheduled to be in Madrid, his second home, with an opponent to be confirmed and over the ten round distance.

"The fight is postponed," confirmed the 45-year-old fighter, during an interview with "El Show del Gol" on Radio Rivadavia.

In any case, Martínez maintained that the ongoing pandemic does not modify his plans to return to professional boxing and that he wants a rematch with Julio César Chávez Jr to "help him overcome his addictions."

"I am going to do my return match in Madrid. I am aware that I am 45 years old but I have been preparing for two years. After the first fight we will see what I'm going to do [in the future]," Martinez said.

"Something is already being said about a potential rematch against Julio César Chávez Jr. It could do us both good. It can help him overcome his problems, his addictions. Boxing has a wonderful nobility."

After his last fight in 2014, in which he was stopped by Miguel Angel Cotto in ten rounds, Martinez decided to walk away from the sport and announced his retirement - citing that his body was breaking down with injuries.

There were many rumors about his return, but "Maravilla" chose to wait for the right moment and not have "the pressure I once felt to go against the clock wanting to face the best and be champion again and again."

"Maravilla" has recovered from the problems he faced with his left knee, which more or less ended his career.

Martinez has a record of 51 wins - 28 by knockout - three losses - and two draws.

Regarding the disease that is spreading across the entire planet, he said: "I have been locked up in my house here in Madrid for 16 days. The situation is very delicate, it will really take time to recover. People do not become aware, that is the problem.

"What is happening now in Spain we will see in Argentina in two or three weeks. The youth did not become aware at first and that was a problem in Madrid. Just now they are paying attention. If you go out and have no reason, they put you in jail or a fine of 700 euros. "

"Today in Spain two policemen died, one 35 and the other 48 years old. People are dying and many are still not aware [of bad this virus is]. I am blessed to be able to live in a spacious house with a patio and I can train here. I transmit my training on my Instagram so that people are distracted."
