At the Sportpalace Drusba in Donetsk, Ukraine, Vyacheslav Senchenko (29-0, 20 KOs) remained undefeated with with a twelve round unanimous decision over Yuri Nuzhnenko (28-1-1, 13 KOs) to capture the WBA "regular" welterweight title. The scores were 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112. Senchenko was said to have built up an early lead by boxing from the outside and using his jab as the key weapon to set up his bigger punches. Nuzhnenko suffered a cut over his left eye in the middle rounds and plenty of facial swelling as the contest wore on. He rallied in the late rounds, but it was too late with Senchenko holding a comfortable advantage on the scorecards.
It's a shame that the WBA has two welterweight champions running around. Due to abundance of confusion among boxing fans and even those in the sport, boxrec was forced to rename the "regular" WBA title to the "ordinary" WBA title. Every person is the sport considers Shane Mosley as the REAL WBA champion. Senchenko is only holding a piece of metal until he beats the legit champion in Mosley. Margarito, who Mosley beat for the title, was named the super champion without even making a single defense of the title..
