Joe Selkirk has reached out to Boxing Scene to clarify the uncertainty around his withdrawal from his next fight.

The talented Liverpool super welterweight had been preparing for a 10-round title fight next month before it was revealed yesterday that he had been ruled out through injury.

Boxing Scene reported that the 30-year-old (14-0, 8 KOs) had suffered “an alleged knee injury” ahead of his clash against fellow unbeaten man Gary Corcoran (14-0, 6 KOs).

Selkirk had been due to face the 25-year-old Wembley star in a top-of-the-bill clash in Dublin, at the National Stadium, on February 6, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

But it is now understood that, following Selkirk’s injury, Corcoran, known as ‘Hellraiser’, will still vie for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental title against a new opponent –– the finer details of which are to be revealed in due course.

“I've done [my] knee in,” Selkirk confirmed earlier today.

“I [have been] unable to train [over] these past few weeks so [my trainer] Danny [Vaughan] wouldn't let me fight.

“[It wasn’t] me, I still wanted to fight and I'm trying to get the fight next, for when I’m fit again.”
