BoxingScene.com caught up with former 108 pound Ring Magazine/WBO/WBA champion Giovani "El Guerrero Azteca" Segura (28-1-1) shortly after Brian Viloria (29-3) lifted Cesar "Pingo" Miranda's WBO flyweight strap via unanimous decision in a thrilling fight.
Segura wanted to congratulate Viloria on his title winning performance. "That was a good fight. Brian did what he had to do to get the win."
Segura defeated Ivan Calderon for a second time in April and then moved up to 112 pounds for his most recent fight, a 1st round KO of Eddy Zuniga in a non-title bout last month.
The fighter of Mexican descent informed BoxingScene that his team had spoken to the WBO prior to the Viloria-Miranda fight and that because Segura was their 108 pound champion, they were promised a shot at the winner.
"Brian should celebrate his victory now but he needs to remember that he has to fight me next. Brian trains in our gym (Azteca Boxing Club) and I kick his ass all the time. He used to train at the Wild Card but he knows where the real action is at. I look forward to seeing him in the ring soon," Segura told BoxingScene.
