At the Montreal Casino, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Sebastien Demers (31-2, 11 KOs) managed to pull out a ten round majority decision over William Joppy (39-6-1, 30 KOs) in a super middleweight contest. The scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 95-95. Joppy, a former WBA champion at middleweight and nearly 40-years-old, announced his retirement after the fight was over to the live audience.
Not a bad final showing for Joppy, who managed to hang in there with Demers and at times gave as good as he got. With the fight on the table, the fresher Demers outhustled and outworked him in the final rounds to clinch the win.
It may not be the last time we see Joppy. The last time he fought and lost in Canada in 2008, against IBF champion Lucian Bute, he announced his retirement.
