Sumio YamadaOn Wednesday night, Tijuana, Mexico’s Sebastian Hernandez won a close but decisive split decision over Osaka, Japan’s Kyonosuke Kameda in a battle of top-ranked junior featherweights, presented by Kameda Promotions at Sumiyoshi Ward Center in Osaka, Japan.
Fighting in the main event of 3150FIGHT 11, “Logan” Hernandez, 23-1 (19 KOs), of San Diego via Tijuana, landed enough straight shots on Kameda, 16-7-2, (9 KOs), to offset the Japanese slugger’s hellacious body attack.
Ranked WBC No. 6, the 25-year-old Hernandez, who put on a gutsy display while losing a 12-round decision against three-division champion countryman Junto Nakatani last December, showed considerable stamina to win the important triumph among world-ranked contenders by two winning scores of 97-93 and 98-92 that overruled a 96-94 tally for the hometown fighter.
WBA No. 7-ranked Kameda, cousin to the world-famous Kameda brothers, upset three-weight world champion John Riel Casimero via convincing unanimous 10-round decision in October 2025. The tough 27-year-old Japanese was, at times, able to push the pace, especially with uppercuts and hooks to the body, though he was never able to summon the power to control the momentum.
With the victory, Hernandez can now focus on the elite names in his division, including Ramon Cardenas, Murodjon Akhmadaliev, Kazuki Nakajima, Shabaz Masoud, and/or a rematch with the aforementioned Nakatani.
