The return of former WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (31-1-2, 23KOs) will have to wait.
The Bury boxer suffered a broken jaw during the biggest fight of his career, and his first pro defeat, in February when he fought and lost a twelve round split decision to domestic rival Carl Frampton.
The 27-year-old had plates inserted into his jaw, but there is now complication where his body is having a bad reaction.
According to Quigg, he now has to go through another procedure to have the plates removed. That will push his return back at least another month or two.
"I've had a bit of a bad reaction to the plates being in, that's why I've got to have them out," Quigg said.
Quigg is still very focused on securing a rematch with Frampton, who is now moving up to face WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz next month. Quigg has made it no secret that he believes Santa Cruz will win the fight.
"But the main thing in my mind now is to get my rematch with Carl Frampton. He has a fight booked with Leo Santa Cruz and I think he will be beaten. It might be better for me if he [Frampton] won, because I would like to fight him for a title again. But, having been in the ring with him, I don't see him being able to match up to Santa Cruz," Quigg told the Bury Times.
"I have always wanted to fight Santa Cruz myself, because I think I have the beating of him. Our styles would go together really well, and I think it would be a great fight for the fans. Ultimately, it's irrelevant who wins between Santa Cruz and Frampton. I have unfinished business with Carl Frampton and I want to fight him again whether he is champion or not."
