WBA 'regular' super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22KOs) is hoping to return to the ring sooner than later. Quigg badly injured his right arm during last month's twelve round decision victory over challenger Hidenori Otake. The injury requird surgery and now Quigg has the arm in a brace.
Quigg is looking to get a big unification fight in 2015, either against WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz or domestic rival Carl Frampton, who holds the IBF's version of the title. Quigg's handlers are not too eager to place him in the ring with the recognized WBA champion of the division, Guillermo Rigondeaux.
“I was gutted,” Quigg told Sky Sports News. “I thought it was going to be ok, as my hand had improved while I’d been on holiday after the fight. I could move it, and there wasn’t as much pain. But I can’t get too down. There’s a lot of people worse off than me.”
“I’ve got to be careful, this is an injury you can’t rush back from. I’ve got to make sure it’s healed before I start using it. I can’t do too much too soon, or it might hamper my career. With the timescale on healing, you’re looking at early May now before I’m back in the ring.”
