Bury’s Scott Quigg will fight for his first professional title when he takes on Redcar’s Gavin Reid for the vacant English super-bantamweight title on the undercard of Matthew Hatton’s EBU title defence against Yuriy Nuzhnenko at the Bolton Arena on July the 16th.

Quigg recently brought boxing back to the borough of Bury with a first round stoppage win over Andrey Kostin; the 21-year-old has an eighteen fight unbeaten record, with twelve wins coming by stoppage; he will be heavily favoured in the fight with Reid, who last tasted victory in September of last year.

However, Reid, 6-6-1 (3 early), showed a lot of mettle in an eight-round points loss to Liverpool’s Stephen Smith last October.  Gavin will hope to halt Quigg’s run of stoppages, Scott’s last six have ended early, and could give Quigg a few sticky moments if the Ricky Hatton-promoted boxer is not at his best.
