GLASGOW, Scotland - Former WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison was released on bail Thursday after appearing in court on drug possession charges.
The 28-year-old Scottish fighter, who spent five weeks in a Spanish jail and is due to return to Malaga on Friday to face charges of assault and car theft, was arrested in Glasgow on Tuesday and held by police until Thursday's hearing.
Harrison appeared in Glasgow's Sheriff Court and denied possessing valium and another charge of assault dating to last April.
He was released on bail and immediately whisked away so he could catch a flight to Spain for Friday's court case.
"I am just very grateful to the court to give Scott the opportunity to go to Spain and sort things out there," said Barry Hughes, Harrison's manager.
Another man, Edward Cairns, 35, was also arrested and released on bail in connection with the drug charge.
Harrison (25-2-2), who has a history of alcohol-related problems, was stripped of his world title in December after he had to pull out of a defense against Nicky Cook on medical advice. He's been banned from fighting by the British Boxing Board of Control.
