Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer recently spoke about the reasons why the public never saw a third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. The first fight ended in a draw. Pacquiao won a twelve round split decision in the rematch. Schaefer thought the wrong man got the decision and stated - "I thought Marquez won" as he discussed the outcome of the second fight.
Schaefer said he tried to make the trilogy with Top Rank but - "I kept being told it's not the right time." He doesn't see a third fight ever taking place in the future.
"I don't think it will ever be the right time," Schaefer said. "I don't think Pacquiao, or Arum, is ever going to want another piece of Marquez."
Why has Marquez given Pacquiao so much trouble in the ring? Schaefer says "styles make fights" and he feels "Marquez has Pacquiao's number."
Marquez is going to fight Juan Diaz in a rematch on July 31 in Las Vegas. Pacquiao might face Floyd Mayweather Jr. on November 13.
