Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is getting involved in the negotiations to make heavyweight unification between WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA champion David Haye of England. The IBF's deadline for negotiations passed on Monday. Klitschko's side has been instructed by the sanctioning organization to make a fight with mandatory Alexander Povetkin within 30-days or the fight will go to a purse bid.

Despite the ruling from the IBF, the management Klitschko and Haye continue to discuss the possibility of an agreement for a unification at the end of the year. Haye's manager/trainer Adam Booth was quoted a few days as stating that Haye needed more time to spend with his family and they wanted to wait until Vitali Klitschko was done with Albert Sosnowski on May 29 so they could review all of the possible options.

Schaefer was quoted in Golzka as supporting the British fighter's decision because he and his wife are expecting a child very soon and Haye wants to stay away from the ring for a while to spend time with his family. Golden Boy is Haye's American promoter. Schaefer wants the fight to happen and says the boxers do as well. He is going to speak with Booth to see what can be done to make the unification happen.

"I'm going to talk to Adam Booth and I think we can make the Haye-Klitschko fight. David's wife is due to give birth soon and he's a bit preoccupied, and rightly so because family comes first, but I firmly believe this fight will happen. David wants it and Wladimir wants it," Schaefer said.
