Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, on Wednesday afternoon confirmed that the fight between junior welterweight champion Amir Khan and interim champion Maidana is a done deal for December 11 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
"I got a call from Amir Khan that Khan-Maidana is done," said Schaefer, who said the call came during the final news conference for Mosley-Mora on Wednesday. "It looks like it's going to be at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas."
Schaefer said the accord means a purse bid will not be necessary.
"We are going to notify the WBA the fighters have agreed to the fight," Schaefer said.
Schaefer said both sides had to compromise.
"Both fighters stated that they really wanted the fight," Schaefer said. "Each fighter had to give a little bit, I had to give a little bit. Everyone made some concessions. Some were of monetary nature, the location of the fight and so on. But in the end everyone gave in a little bit."
Schaefer said everyone in the industry wanted to see this fight get made.
"That is one of the requests I get most from fans," he said. "It's Maidana's opportunity and it's also Amir Khan's because a lot of people have questioned if he would ever fight Maidana. I think he has answered those critics by saying, 'Yes, I will fight him, and in the United States.' "
