Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer doesn't agree with everything, but there is something he does agrees with. During a recent BoxingScene.com interview, Juan Manuel Marquez claimed to have the perfect style to beat Manny Pacquiao. After two tough fights, a single point separates them. They went to a controversial twelve round draw in 2004, and then Pacquiao won a controversial twelve round split decision over Marquez in their 2008 rematch.
"I know Pacquiao. I know how to fight Pacquiao. I know his style. I know how Pacquiao's style is and I'm always one step ahead of him [when we fight]. I think 70% [the fight won't happen]. Pacquiao is scared of me because he knows who won the fight. Why doesn't he want to fight me?," Marquez told BoxingScene.com
Schaefer doesn't disagree. He says there is a lot of truth in Marquez's statements.
"When we did the last fight with Manny Pacquiao, which I felt, and which most people felt that Marquez had won, after the fight, at the post-fight press conference, Bob Arum and I got into it. Because, I said, 'Look,' I said, 'This is obviously unfinished business and we should do the rematch.' Arum didn't want to do it," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com
"Ever since, then, they haven't wanted to do it. So, I do know that certain fighters have another fighter's number, and with Marquez and Pacquiao, it's probably true."
