A war of words erupted on social media between middleweight champions Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) and Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs).
Jacobs is still riding high after stopped Brooklyn rival and former champion Peter Quillin in the first round last December at the Barclays Center.
Also last December, Saunders won a twelve round decision over Andy Lee to capture the WBO crown. Saunders is scheduled to make a voluntary defense and wants to have a major fight in the summer.
Saunders will defend his strap on April 30 against durable contender Max Bursak (32 4 1, 15 KOs) at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Lately Saunders has been calling out IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin. That fight is on the backburner as Golovkin is looking straight ahead at a possible fight in the fall with the winner of the upcoming Saul 'Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan showdown in May.
Jacobs, who is not scheduled to face anyone as of yet. threw out the challenge by letting everyone know that he wants to get Saunders in the ring.
"There's been a lot a talk about my next [fight].. I wanna make it clear, I'll fight anyone they put in front of me . But I want [Billy Joe Saunders]!" Jacobs stated.
Saunders flipped his lid upon reading the message and responded back with a threat, and ripped Jacobs for being the secondary WBA champion at the weight limit. Jacobs holds the WBA's 'regular' title while Golovkin is the 'super' champion.
"You want me I'll kick your ass son. You're not even the world champ...belt number 2 you hold," Saunders fired back.
Jacobs barely engaged the taunt. He went straight to the point.
"No need to go back and forth. You know where I stand! I want [that] ass. Sign the contract!!!!"
