Jamie Conlan has had his opponent confirmed for his next fight.
The Belfast super flyweight, who recently signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren, will challenge for a title next month, exclusively live on BoxNation.
Conlan, 29, has a record of 15-0 (9 KOs) and will look to claim the Commonwealth crown when he faces champion Anthony Nelson for the belt on April 30 at the Copper Box Arena in London.
It’ll mark the former WBO European champ’s first ring appearance of the year after his February 6 outing was canned 24 hours before it due to a shooting incident at the weigh-in in Dublin.
Boxing Scene had been informed about the potential of the fight being made, by a source close to BoxNation, around 10 days ago, but it was made official on Thursday by Nelson (11-0, 2 KOs), who is from South Shields.
The 30-year-old, who won the vacant title with a points win over Jamie Wilson in Newcastle last April, has only boxed once since in what was a six-round decision victory over Ian Halsall.
He posted on Instagram: “This will be a big test for me as Jamie comes in [to the fight as] a hungry fighter [and will be] looking to move on and box for a world title in the summer.”
The fight will feature on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO world middleweight title defence against ‘Mad’ Max Bursak.
Despite talking up Conlan, Nelson finished up by saying: “Obviously these are not our plans [to let Conlan win], so we will be ready to go to war.”
