Mario Santiago (19-1, 14KOs) of Puerto Rico is motivated for his title shot opportunity against Steven Luevano (35-1, 15KOs). The fight takes place on the undercard to Manny Pacquiao-David Diaz on June 28 in Las Vegas.
Santiago's only loss was a technical decision to Hector Velazquez last July. He's also been out of the ring since the loss. He holds a win over veteran Daniel Attah and stopped spoiler Cornelius Lock in five-rounds. Luevano, the WBO featherweight champion is an up and coming name in the sport. He's been on quite a run since stopping unbeaten Nicky Cook to win the title, also last July. Luevano's only loss was a razor-thin decision to Martin Honorio in 2005 (the fighter Robert Guerrero blew away in one-round last November).
"This is the dream of every boxer. It's my first title opportunity. God put it in my path and I will take advantage of it," Santiago told Primera Hora.
