Virgil Hunter and Robert Garcia don't believe Freddie Roach deserved the 2013 Trainer of the Year award. Top trainer Abel Sanchez doesn't agree.

"I think it's sour grapes," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday. "I think that Freddie actually trains his guys and actually works with his guys and it's obvious in all the tapes that you see of him. Freddie has done some good things with the guys that he's worked with in the year that he got named."

Sanchez had a strong year himself in 2013, leading Gennady Golovkin to the best year of his career to date, while also guiding Mike Perez to a win over Magomed Abduslamov.

However, Sanchez doesn't think it's up to trainers to decide who deserves the award.

"My job is to make sure that my guys do the best that they can do and they keep winning, and if I deserve the award, then I'm sure I'll get it. ... What's important to me is that my peers -- Freddie, Robert, Joel (Diaz) -- consider my fighters and myself decent work."
