Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning jockey Sam Thomas will be the headline act at a charity boxing event sponsored by equine insurers Markel at The Brewery, City of London, on September 27.

Thomas, 28, won the blue riband of National Hunt racing on Denman in 2008 and will sport the great horse's nickname of 'The Tank' for the night.

The evening will be hosted by Sky Sports News presenter Millie Clode, and Thomas will be raising money for the Injured Jockeys Fund, as well as official charity of the night Barnardo's.

Eleven insurance professionals, including two women are taking part in the show.

Thomas, who has had to endure his fair share of injury during his career, said: "Markel has been sponsoring me for a few years and has supported me through all the knocks I've had on the racecourse.

"So I felt it was time to give a few knocks back by putting on the gloves for two very worthy charities.

"And as I owe a lot to Denman, no surprise that I'm borrowing his nickname for my fight."
