Ivaylo Gotzev, manager of Nigerian heavyweight contender Sam Peter, is under the impression that Tomasz Adamek scared from a possible IBF eliminator and did everything his crould to reach an agreement to fight one of the Klitschko brothers in September. Gotzev and Adamek's promoter Main Events were negotiating an IBF eliminator clash for April 16 in Poland. A purse bid had been set for January 27.
When Gotzev called Main Events to further discuss the Adamek-Peter details, he was advised that a deal was reached for a September clash between Adamek and IBO/WBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko. If Wladimir is unable to fight, then Adamek will face Vitali Klitschko in the same month for the WBC title. He says Klitschko presented Adamek with a good deal because he knew Peter stood a good chance of beating the Polish boxer.
"I phoned Adamek's promoter Kathy Duva, and she said that their team had already signed a contract with Klitschko. We were, in principle, expecting to do that fight [Adamek-Peter]. Naturally, the purse bid, scheduled for January 27 was canceled, and the IBF is now looking for another opponent for Peter. I think [Adamek] was just scared to fight him. Because we all know that Sam is a great puncher. But Klitschko, knowing that Peter has a good chance to beat Adamek, negotiated with him because his object was to avoid another bout against Peter, which would be of no interest to them," Gotzev told Alexander Pavlov.
