The confidence level of unbeaten Dmitriy Salita is growing by the day. He challenges WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan on December 5 in Newcastle. Salita is the underdog and even he admits that Khan is a big step up in class. But, he also sees it as a big step up in class for Khan. He is not impressed with Khan's record. Salita believes that Khan has never faced a young, hungry fighter. He doesn't see any way that Khan will win.
“I know this is a big step up for me,” Salita said to The Times Online . “But it is for Khan, too. He’s never fought a young, hungry guy like me, or a real light-welterweight. All his other opponents have been hand-picked. I’m the mandatory challenger, so this is the first fight he’s had to take. I noticed at the press conference we had in October that I’m bigger than him. I believe I can outpower him. My boxing skills and speed are underestimated and I believe I can outbox him, too. He’s fast but no faster than me.”
Salita plans to take Khan to school. He has a few tricks in store for the popular British fighter. He plans to take the fight to Khan and exchange punches from the first round. Both Khan and Salita have questionable chins and very few expect this contest to last until the final bell.
“I’ll show him some of the tricks of the trade,” Khan said. “He’s in for a surprise. I fight New York City-style. He’s never had to deal with that in a fight, and dealing with it with sparring partners is not the same. I’ll be pushing the fight, going forward, and from what I hear he’ll be doing the same, so it should be interesting.”
