Former world champion Orlando "Siri" Salido (41-12-2, 28KOs) has decided not to fight on August 30th in Hermosillo, Sonora. Instead he will return on October 4th, against an opponent to be determined, in a bout for the interim-super featherweight title of the World Boxing Organization. The sanctioning body may potentially order a fight between Salido and undefeated contender Francisco Vargas for the vacant crown.
Vargas (20-0-1, 14KOs) is the WBO's international champion at the weight and coming off a three round stoppage win over Juan Manuel Lopez, who Salido had two memorable wars with.
"We have decided not to fight on August 30 in Hermosillo. We are going to fight, from what I am told, on the 4th of October," Salido said.
"I do not know if Francisco Vargas will be the opponent. I think he's is good, and that's who should fight me. He has quality, he moves well, comes forward. I think we'd go well together. We are Mexicans and we'd leave our souls the ring."
