BoxingScene.com has confirmed that a deal has been reached for WBO super featherweight champion Orlando "Siri" Salido (42-12-2, 29KOs) to defend his title for the first time against Roman "Rocky" Martinez (28-2-2, 17KOs) on April 11th at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The fight be showcased as part of a pay-per-view event on DirecTV.
Salido is no stranger to fighting in Puerto Rico. He had two memorable victories on the island against Juan Manuel Lopez. Salido also holds a knockout victory over Puerto Rico's Orlando Cruz. Although Martinez will undoubtedly have the crowd behind him, Salido's style of fighting has gained him quite a number of fans in Puerto Rico.
Martinez, a former WBO champion at the weight, had moved up to lightweight but moves back to 126-pounds for a crack at Salido. He returned to action this past December and knocked out Herbert Quartey in two.
Sean Gibbons, manager of Salido, expects fireworks.
"Regardless of where this fight takes it's going to be exciting. Salido has a very strong track record of having exciting fights in Puerto Rico. This fight with Martinez will be no exception," Gibbons told BoxingScene.com.
