Orlando Salido plans to be a lot smarter on December 17 at the Forum in Inglewood, California, when he goes for the interim-super featherweight title of the World Boxing Council against dangerous Japanese contender Takashi Miura. The fight, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, has the potential to be a fight of the year.

"I really want to continue in boxing, and hope to win this fight to reach the million-dollar purses. I hope to get the big fights, hopefully someday we get paid for what we deserve for the show that we provide to the people," Salido said to ESPN Deportes.

Salido, who has professional record of 43-13-4 and 30 knockouts, has been recognized for a long time with providing some of the most entertaining fights in recent years, which has increased his value although he's not yet received the salary he wants.

After starring the leading candidate for the best fight of the year, in the draw against Francisco Vargas this past June, he stressed that he has fought a number of lefties, and has beaten them all, but realizes that his fight against Miura will be quite dangerous.

"Fortunately I have beaten all of the lefties that I've faced, I know it will be a very tough fight, but we must draw on the experience, you have to try to be smart because with our styles it's going to be a war from the beginning," Salido said.

For now, Salido has already begun with the strongest part of the training in Sonora, and hopes to reach his maximum in order to focus on strategy and weight.

"The idea is to throw 150 punches per round in camp, be prepared with everything to be ready for anything that Miura brings,' Salido said.

Salido and Miura will fight for the interim title because Vargas is recovering from the cuts that were suffered on the eyelids against Miura last November and then they were ripped open once again in June with Salido.
