Super featherweight Juan Carlos Salgado is not intimidated by the speed of Argenis Mendez. The two boxers collide for the vacant IBF super featherweight title on September 10 at the Olympic Coliseum at the University of Guadalajara. Salgado is not concerned with some of the recent statements that were made by Mendez, who made a prediction that his speed and ability to box would be too much for the Mexican fighter.
"The truth is, I feel very well prepared, eager to go out there to do my job and earn that title. It's okay to tell me what he plans to do, but all it does is warn me of what he's planning and how I should box and that's an advantage for me," Salgado said. "The fight is taking place in my house and before my people and I will not miss this opportunity. From what I've seen in videos, he's fast, but also hits hard and I think that his volume [of punching] is good. It's up to me in that ring. I know how to arrive physically and mentally."
"I'm glad my opponent has arrived with that determination, because that will allow me to fight my fight. I think I'm a better fighter and I have the will to succeed and to provide Mexico with a new world champion. I was champion once, and I can do it again without any problems. I can assure the people of Guadalajara that I will not disappoint anyone."
