Mexico's Juan Carlos Salgado (26-2-1, 16KOs) is leaving the super featherweight division and plans to debut as a lightweight in his very next fight. This past Saturday in California, Salgado lost his IBF championship when he was dropped and stopped in two rounds by division rival Argenis Mendez. Following the match, Salgado revealed that he he badly struggled to make the division limit of 126. In the days leading up to the weigh-in, Salgado was forced to take part in numerous daily runs and repeatedly hit the sauna to shave off the last few pounds.
"It was hard to make weight. I had to stay within the limits of the division and I came in and made weight at the time of the fight. This is boxing, you win and you lose and I have to keep moving forward. I'm looking to once again became world champion," Salgado said.
