Former junior middleweight titleholder Sadam Ali came in at the heaviest weight of his career on Saturday, a day before he is set to end a six-year layoff.

Ali, 27-3 (14 KOs), checked in at 157.4lbs, nearly two pounds heavier than Cody Wilson, 14-5 (9 KOs), who was 155.6lbs. The two will meet on Sunday afternoon in a 10-round fight at the Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit.

Ali, a former WBO junior middleweight titleholder from Brooklyn, New York, last fought in 2019, when he was stopped in three rounds by Anthony Young in a welterweight fight. The 36-year-old Ali, who represented the US at the 2008 Olympics, was expected to return to the ring earlier this year before an injury put him out of commission once more.

Wilson, 31, of West Virginia, last fought in April, when he was decisioned by Ivan Dancha in an eight-round fight.

Ali isn’t the only former titleholder who is making his return on the card.

Richard Commey, who had previously held the IBF lightweight title, will end a layoff of more than two years when he faces Cincinnati's William Jackson, 13-6-2 (5 KOs), in a six-round fight. Commey, 30-5-1 (27 KOs), came in at 144.8lbs, while Jackson weighed 145.6lbs.

Bantamweight contender Khalid Twaiti, 14-1 (5 KOs), of Brooklyn, will look to bounce back from his first career defeat when he faces Mexico’s Francisco Gomez, 14-13 (11 KOs), in a six-round fight. Twaiti weighed in at 120.4lbs, while Gomez came in at 121.4lbs.

Twaiti, 29, most recently fought in June, when he lost a decision to Emanuel Moreno. Before that, he scored his career-best win, a one-sided decision win over Emmanuel Rodriguez.
