Young lightweight contender, Ryan Martin (20-0, 11 KO's), was supposed to be a part of the December 9th undercard at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. But an injury has scuttled those plans.
A meeting has been scheduled for next week, between Team Martin and promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, to work out the details of the boxer's next ring return and a potential world title shot in 2018.
Martin broke his finger in his most recent outing and the injury is still healing up.
Timothy VanNewhouse, who manages Martin advised BoxingScene.com - "I'm meeting with Tom next week in Vegas to finalize our plans for next year. I expect to have some big news soon. Obviously, Ryan is eyeing a world title shot in 2018 and we are going to help him get there.
"Right now he's recovering from a broken finger. He broke it in his last fight and prolonged getting a splint on it which forced us to withdraw from his planned December 9th HBO Latino bout."
In his most recent bout, which came on the Gennady Golovkin-Saul Alvarez HBO pay-per-view undercard on September 16th at T-Mobile in Las Vegas, Martin struggled in winning a ten-round split decision over Francisco Rojo.
"Ryan understands it isn't just about winning, its how you win and he wants to move past his last outing as a learning experience. He wants to just move forward in 2018 by becoming an exciting young world champion," said VanNewhouse.
Afterwards there were discussions about moving Martin up in weight.
Van Newhouse explained - "We spoke at length today, he plans to continue campaigning in the lightweight division. He's focusing more on what to eat to attain optimal health and weight. He has me excited about his revamped diet and I can't wait to see him back in action."
