The last we saw of lightweight hopeful, Ryan 'Blue Chip' Martin, he was struggling to earn a split decision victory over Francisco Rojo on the Saul Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin HBO pay-per-view undercard at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 16th.
So what's next for the undefeated Martin (20-0, 11 KO's) as he looks to rebound from his rather tepid performance?
Timothy Van Newhouse, the manager for Martin explained to BoxingScene.com - "For the past two fights, Ryan has had very difficult weight-cuts. You don’t see many lightweights as big as he is. He’s at about 1-2% body fat and he feels he’s still growing.
"We believe there are some changes that can be made to have a healthier camp. He’s scheduled to see a nutritionist on Thursday and we will explore having our next fight at a catch weight of 137 lbs. This will allow us to collectively make the decision if he will remain campaigning in the lightweight division or move up to junior welterweight."
Martin, will soon be preparing for his next outing and he's coming together with one of the best known trainers in the sport - who handles fighters such as Golovkin, Murat Gassiev and more.
"Ryan will arrive in Big Bear on Monday as we’ve enlisted the services of Abel Sanchez. We are confident this is the environment he needs to be in without any distractions. The combination of the altitude, spartan lifestyle and Abel’s old-school boxing tactics make this an ideal destination for any world-class boxer. Ryan will remain in camp for it’s entirety and Joe Delguyd will help compliment Abel during fight week and the night of the fight,"explained Van Newhouse.
As for when Martin will fight next, Van Newhouse mentioned - "there’s been mention of a tentative December 16th HBO date by GGG Promotions."
