21 year old highly regarded lightweight prospect Ryan “Blue Chip” Martin came off the canvas for the first time in his entire career to earn a second round knockout of game Mexico’s Edgar LLanes (13-6 8KO’s).
With the win, Martin stays unbeaten and improves to 10-0 (6KO’s). This completes his 8-fight year in 2014 since turning professional in September last year at Resorts World Casino NYC.
It took no time for Martin to establish his jab with blazing speed. Boxing at long range, in less than a minute into the fight Martin landed a crisp right hand to drop Llanes. He beat the count and wasted no time getting back into action.
Llanes threw a huge overhand just moments after beating the count. It landed on the temple of Martin followed by a left uppercut that sent him to the canvas for the first time since picking up the sport at age 7. Martin shot back up to his feet, still hurt but stayed calm to finish round one.
Round two was much different for Martin. He landed a short left hook that sent Llanes to canvas again. He stayed down longer this time until the referee counted to eight. He was dropped two more times before his corner waived their towel to end the fight in round two of six.
Llanez came to brawl. He was a rather big lightweight with some good offensive skills. This should be a good experience for the young prospect and his development.
