It's going to be a busy spring for rising prospect Ryan Martin.
The unbeaten lightweight is slated to return to the ring on April 11 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His fight—against an opponent to be determined—will take place on the undercard of Orlando Salido's junior lightweight title defense versus Roman Martinez. Martin's bout will not appear on the Pay-Per-View portion of the telecast, but will see airtime on a delayed basis on beIN Sports.
Assuming he escapes unscatched, Martin (11-0, 6KOs) will appear on the non-televised portion of the May 9 show at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. The show is topped by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in his return to HBO as he faces James Kirkland in a highly anticipated junior middleweight clash.
The placement on the Alvarez-Kirkland card comes as a combination of his major potential and his promotional affiliation. Both Martin and Kirkland fight under 50 Cent's SMS Promotions banner.
Martin—a former stud amateur aptly nickmaned "Blue Chip"—was born and raised in East Tennessee but now lives and trains out of Cleveland, Ohio. The 22-year old is coming off of a six-round points win over Carlos Valenzuela this past February in Hidalgo, Texas.
