Rising super featherweight/lightweight prospect Ryan "The Flash" Garcia passed his toughest test to date Saturday night in Southern California with a majority decision victory over Carlos Morales in a bout that headlined the second Golden Boy/Facebook card of their five fight output deal. The final scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 95-95.
Immediately after the fight Garcia acknowledged that the scores should have been closer.
"First I wanna say much respect to Carlos Morales. I felt like the fight was closer than the scorecards say. He did a great job. I'm giving all my respect to him and it was great a great fight," Garcia stated in the in ring post fight interview.
Prior to the fight Garcia held a media workout where he discussed a variety of topics. One of those topics was this Saturday's showdown for the vacant WBC welterweight title. Danny Garcia versus Shawn Porter will serve as the main event of a Showtime tripleheader that will broadcast live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Garcia is the slight betting favorite and most insiders see the bout as a toss up. Ryan believes that his namesake should come out with the victory and even predicts that Porter will hit the canvas during the fight.
"I think Danny Garcia will win that but honestly that is a tough fight. I think maybe 50-50 but I am leaning towards Danny Garcia. He didn't do that bad versus (Keith) Thurman and I just think his skill set - that left hook I think will drop Porter. I mean Porter got dropped by Broner's left hook which is not that hard. I don't know this just me talking," Garcia told a small group of reporters.
