Ryan Burnett could be set for a massive homecoming in the spring after his promoter issued a strong hint via social media.

The Belfast bantamweight, 23, who is the current custodian of the British title, was always set to return to his roots after signing with Matchroom Sport last year, but more groundwork has been put in and a potential date has been revealed.

Burnett (12-0, 9 KOs) could be showcased in the capital of Irish boxing on April 30, it has been suggested by Eddie Hearn, the Matchroom chief, after he was asked what his plans were for the prospect with regards to a hometown return.

Hearn, who signed former Ricky Hatton protégé Burnett last October, had confirmed during the Belfast leg of the three-city press tour for the super bantamweight world title unification showdown between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg that he planned to take the Ulsterman home.

But before that is possible, Burnett has a spot on the undercard of the aforementioned Frampton-Quigg show, at Manchester Arena on February 27, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office, to get past, despite his opponent –– or title status for the fight –– not yet being set in stone.

Should the Sky Sports cameras, as expected, return to Belfast at some point in the spring, it will be the first time they’ve visited the Titanic city since showing the first instalment of Carl Frampton against Kiko Martinez, which was for the European and IBF Inter-Continental belts in the 122-pound division, at the Odyssey Arena in February, 2013.
