Today Russian Paralympic Team filed a claim with CAS for the cancel of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) decision to dismiss RCC. The Russian team is supported by Andrey Ryabinsky, Vice-President of Federation of professional Boxing of Russia (FPBR) and the head of the promotion company World of Boxing, who has huge experience in conducting sports cases especially after winning the case against Don King. Ryabinsky will provide the Russian Paralympic Committee (RCC) with top-level lawyers and cover all courtroom expenses needed to defend the team at Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
According to Ryabinsky, the chances to win this case in court before the Paralympic Games start are high.
"I strongly believe we win this case in time. The only thing we have to be worried about is the political issue. The suspension of the Paralympic team is not only offensive to the Russian nation but it is also a dangerous precedent. As soon as I heard the decision, I got in touch with the Paralympic Committee of Russia and offered them support with high-level lawyers. I informed them that I was ready to cover all the expenses myself. We signed a contract with the Paralympic Committee of Russia", — said Ryabinsky.
Earlier on the 8 August the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) banned all Russians from the Games after obtaining from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) a list of 35 Russian parathletes mentioned in a report issued by the Richard McLaren-led independent commission. IPC president Philip Craven said that ten Russian parathletes who had been suspected of violating anti-doping rules were part of a broken system that stems from the Russian government.
Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Valentina Matviyenko noted that, instead of "providing tangible evidence to substantiate its decision," the IPC offers "declarative statements accusing Russian Paralympic athletes of mass doping abuse, and the Russian authorities - of conniving with this".
“We couldn’t understand what this decision is based on. Most likely, it’s about the McLaren report [on doping], but that report doesn’t give any data about the Paralympic athletes at all. There is only one table which says that 35 doping test bottles were lost”, said Vladimir Lukin, the president of the Russian Paralympic Committee.
