The former WBA heavyweight champion of the world, Ruslan Chagaev (27-1-1, 17 KOs), conducted a short interview to Russian “Sport-Express” daily and confirmed that negotiations for a fight between him and Alexander Povetkin (21-0, 15 KOs), for the vacant WBA "regular" belt, are nearly complete.

“My promoter told me that Team Povetkin is ready to fight. But I cannot say right now that the bout is really on because the contract hasn’t been signed yet. However, I agree with the Russian party that the fight is 80% done," said Chagaev.

“Alexander Povetkin is a good boxer. He is a contender for the heavyweight title, and he is an Olympic gold medalist. That speaks for itself. The guy is prepared, and he is ready to fight to the end because this is a good chance for both of us to seize the vacant title”.

“I haven’t fought for a long time but, thanks to God, I’m fully ready to fight. I don’t think I’ll be rusty even though I haven’t fought for quite a long period of time. I’ll be in great shape for the Povetkin fight."
