The World Boxing Council has sanctioned Hugo Ruiz (35-2, 31KOs) vs. Julio Ceja (29-1, 26KOs) for the WBC interim-super bantamweight world title.
Ruiz is the mandatory challenger to Leo Santa Cruz, who moves up in weight to face Abner Mares on August 29th at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
According to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, the Ruiz-Ceja clash will take place on the Mares vs. Santa Cruz undercard. Ceja's sole defeat came to Jamie McDonnell in May of 2011. He's won five in a row since.
Santa Cruz filed a request with the sanctioning body to hold on to his title while he moves up in weight.
"If Santa Cruz moves down from featherweight, he must fight the winner or else the winner will be named WBC champion," Sulaiman said.
Now word if Ruiz-Ceja would be part of the Premier Boxing Champions card.
